Some people feel embarrassed about discussing bowel problems with their doctor. By the time the patient seeks medical advice because he or she cannot cope any longer with his or her symptoms,it can sometimes be too late. Be sensible.

Flexible Sigmoidoscopy a one off screening test for 55 to 64 year olds is to be offered together with the current home FOB screening test in England.

 Flex/sig allows doctors to see the wall of the bowel and then remove any small growths/polyps that have the potential to develop into cancer.The test could cut the incidence of bowel cancer by a third and the mortality rate by up to 43%.

The charity Bowel Cancer Wales is actively campaigning for the introduction of Flexible Simoidoscopy screening in Wales along with the current home testing kit.
